Now that your class has screened this film...

Conduct some online research about the topics of
MEDIA & RACISM....MEDIA & RACIAL STEREOTYPES.
See what results you get and look through some of it carefully.

Check out this information Prof. Rucker has prepared for this class:

  CLASS READER ON RACIAL DIVERSITY

Type a two page maximum, double-spaced, one inch margins on all sides paper
which answers all of the following questions:

1. Does THE COLOR OF FEAR offer any insights which might explain some of the research
    you found or read?

2. How would you say the media portrays your ethnic culture or race today? Consider
advertising, TV, magazines, movies or online sites. Is your culture visible or invisible?
Is the portrayal positive, negative, purposefully omitted? Offer your individual perspectives.

3. In a year when an African-American is considered a serious candidate for President of the
United States, how would you say the media has reported the issue of race in this
campaign? Has media efforts done more to help American voters be more at ease or
made them less comfortable with the notion of an African-American president?

     * Note *   After the Mississippi Primary Tuesday of this week, exit poll information
suggested 91% of Blacks there supported Obama, 72% of white voters
there supported Clinton. This suggests strongly voting was done along
racial lines versus "cross-over voting" which is seen as color blind making
                    race an irrelevant issue.

Put the following info at the top of page one of your paper:

MCOM 105        COLOR OF FEAR      (Your Name)     (Your Ethnic Culture Briefly Identified)

Be prepared to share this information with classmates during Monday, March 17th class
meeting. Your typed assignments will be collected at the end of class.
