extremely honest dialogue. This film provides
great stimulus for audience discussion. For
many Euro-Americans, this film is their
Racism 101 course. For many folks of color
this film is a perfect opening for them to talk
about their personal experiences and the
effect that racism has had
on their families and communities."

What am I missing that would help me
better understand other cultures?

Why do people sometimes react differently
to the same media message?

How do media influence, distort or
limit full diversity appreciation?

Knowledge is power IF we're not afraid
to talk about diversity candidly & respectfully.
Listening well, being willing to learn about
another's truth without judging,
is crucial. At times this will challenge
your comfort zones.

Diversity appreciation is not easy.
Taking it for granted can also
be infuriating for those who desperately
want to be fully heard and better understood.

MCOM 105 teaches students to stop and
think about this as we
review what media is teaching us
and reinforcing by its approaches.
