MCOM 105 is designed for juniors, seniors and
graduate students. It covers some very sensitive topics and how the media
deals with them. Racism, homophobia, sexism, religious bias &
stereotyping, and disability misunderstanding in media messages and
decision-making are carefully studied. Open, candid, mature, challenging but
respectful discussions are expected in this lecture-discussion class. All
students on campus are welcome to take this course as an elective.
*** Fall semester, 2004 this course will be taught by Prof. Dona Nichols.
Journalism 61b exposes students to a unique and many times challenging new writing style. This lab class is open to any undergraduate who has completed both English 1a and English 1b. Graduate students may take J61b to learn broadcast and internet news writing style, but they do not earn masters degree credit for this lower division course.
