We currently have internships open to all SJSU students.

As an intern, you will gain experience working for California’s dynamic LGBT civil rights organization, where you will learn a broad range of skills. These skills include: event and issue organizing, opposition research, volunteer recruitment, building community relationships, lobbying elected officials, working with the media,  oral and written advocacy, and fundraising among other exciting activities. Interns will participate in staff meetings thus ensuring their voices are heard and their opinions are valued.

We are looking for interns to provide support to one or more of the following divisions: field organization, communication, administration.

Our Silicon Valley office is located in Downtown San Jose, within walking distance from SJSU.
This is an unpaid internship. Hours for our interns are flexible, with opportunities to work nights, weekends, or during weekday office hours. Flexible start and end dates, with a minimum 6 week commitment.

Desired applicants should:
    * Be able to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously
    * Be detail-oriented, organized, and computer-literate
    * Have excellent written and verbal communications skills
    * Have an outgoing and service-oriented demeanor
    * Be proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and the internet
    * Have knowledge or interest in LGBT issues

Loughlin/Michaels Group

This position is ideal for junior/senior level college students interested in the public relations industry. He/she will work on several projects simultaneously and coordinate efforts - as needed - with account teams. A great opportunity to learn more about fast-paced agency life and high technology accounts. This paid internship requires a minimum 20-hour commitment per week for no less than the length of the upcoming school term.

 Support senior team on a variety of client projects including:

·         Assist in market research for client projects

·        Assist in media relations

·        Assist in operations management (mail, library, phone etc.) o Write pitches, press releases with direction from senior team member

·        Edit team writing/familiar with AP Style Guide

·        Editorial calendar outreach o Develop and maintain media contact list, ed cals, buyers guides and awards documents

·        Assist with speaker’s bureau matrix development

·        Create press clippings for clients o Develop briefing books o Monitor press clippings activity for LMGPR site o Assist in production of documents needed for meetings

·        Assist with vendor management of Businesswire, Catchpole and other services

·        Post client press releases to newswire services and online postings

·        Attend PRSA meetings and workshops

Requirements include:

We’re looking for a dynamic, motivated and efficient self-starter with an interest in public relations and the technology industry.

·         Minimum commitment of 20 hours per week for 3 months

·        Current students (preferable junior or senior level)

·        Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

·        Strong writing skills

·        Ability to use Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word and the Internet

·         Strong organizational skills

·        Willing to have fun while you work
